Toxic Cloud

The Toxic Cloud is heavily effective against troops and best used against huge armies.

Toxic Cloud is the second spell available and provides a specialized type of damage: poison. It is most effective against Paladins. Although long-rangers like Archers, Frosters, Pyromancers, and Arblasters receive considerable damage from this spell, its short range of 2.4 makes it useless against these units firing from a different lane. In this case, Toxic Cloud is exclusively used against Paladins, the robust defenders of most kingdoms.

TIPS

To make Toxic Cloud dependable enough, it must have a damage of at least 1000, which is achieved at Level 8. At this level, this spell can cause 1,076 poison damage which lasts for 4 seconds. And to take advantage of this duration, you must either stay at the center of attacking close-rangers like Paladins and Knights, or move close to long-range units who can be affected by poison.

Players who are afraid of Paladins (they can take considerable time to kill) always include Toxic Cloud in their arsenal. This is especially true if the Mortar is not yet unlocked or if it is still not upgraded enough.

Toxic Cloud is best used together with Swordrain. While Toxic Cloud damages Paladins who get close by to attack, Swordrain can be launched to kill long-range attackers from another lane. This way, you will have a chance to protect your newly spawned troops.

For some players, this spell is replaced once the Mortar is unlocked. However, while the Mortar has huge health compared with other long-rangers, it dies easily of fire and ice. So, it is better to complement Mortars with Toxic Cloud in order to kill both short-range and long-range troops faster.
